Voice Over Talent Casting Database - Week 1 in Review

The new MineWurx Studio Voice Over Talent Databse

The new MineWurx Studio Voice Over Talent Database

This was the first week where we began to open the database up to new members. There’s really nothing to see. It’s just an upload process that allows people who wish to be a part of the early database testing to upload their demos and studio profiles. We also added a free voice talent directory for the people who took the time to upload their demos. Only a few have taken advantage of the free voice over talent directory so far, but that’s ok. It will continue to grow slowly.

So far the membership is only 20% women, which is a number that needs to improve as time goes on. Of the women we do have there are some good versatile talent, but we certainly need more. Currently 50% of the membership base has 10 years or more of experience which is also a very good number. Talent specialties are across the board. There is a very good mixture of talent as far as range is concerned. It’s really just the numbers that matter now.

Overall it was a good week for the system. The number of people who joined up was substantial and surprising.  We only opened it up to different groups by special invitation, and will probably keep it invitation only for a while. If you haven’t come across our invitations so far send us a note at the studio with your credentials and we’ll tell you how to get on.

The process (the upload process that is) seems to be a good filter for aptitude. I don’t know what it is exactly - but the site hasn’t been inundated with amateur talent. I’m sure many of you can relate to the old experience at voice321 where so many of the members were helpless hopefuls with horrendously sub-par demos and skills. Part of it may be due to the fact that we’re not catering to the great unwashed in this process. Skilled talent with quality demos and web sites will find an open door. Those without, will not.

When it comes to rolling the process out to different groups at different times, VO-BB takes the cake for the number of quality talent who submitted to the site. Our mailing list subscribers played a good role. The Yahoo voice over group elected not to let me tell anyone about it yesterday. I just submitted it to them again but we’ll see if they let my post beyond the mods. Introducing it to the Facebook group has been the worst response so far. A lot of people keep registering for an account and then not uploading anything… I don’t know what’s going on with the gang over there.

Next we would like to open the doors for a few more VO groups and then we’ll probably make is 90% public. Just know that if you are in the database - to this point you’re in some pretty good company.
