This is an older photo of the "good ol' days" before the new studio was functioning. We just started on the new booth this week and I'll be posting photos here and there to let everyone see the goings-on.

From now on - potential voice over students wishing to get a free 1 hour evaluation will need to submit an online form to set up their evaluation.
Simply go to THIS PAGE and fill out your information. It's very simple to do and will help us keep track of everything. It's a Flash based form - so you'll need Flash installed on your machine. Some people in offices and government networks may experience problems and should fill the form out at home.
That being said - we are no longer conducting intial interviews on the telephone. We'll reserve telephone conversations for times when it is most needed rather that spending hours talking to each person seeking an evaluation.
We just dont have the time.
Once again - thanks... Let us know if you have any problems. MM Here's a link to the related podcast which covers this and a few other things.. NEW PODCAST
For the last year the studio offered 3 different packages for VO lesson - 5 weeks - 10 weeks and 20 weeks. It was an experiment of sorts which lead to this final outcome
Voice over lessons will now be for 10 weeks - $800 - payable in two payments of $400 if the VO student so wishes. If you choose the payment option, the remaining $400 is due at the beginning of your 4th lesson. This allows people to split the lump sum up into two payments. (Something many of my students had requested in the past.)
So - gone are the ever-lasting 20 week sessions. and the 5 week sessions as well. The new studio will have more hands on training available to students. There will also be Pro-Tools and Audition workstations. In the near future we should be linked up with Source-Connect.

For those of you who come by often enough to know that I haven't posted in a long, long time - this may come as a shock - but I'm still here..
I've been buried in all sorts of projects - the new studio being one of them. It has the old studio beat hands down as far as toys and bells and whistles. One of the most exciting is a complete voice over workstation for my VO students with a mixer, microphone, headphones and a windows computer that is ProTools and Adobe Audition equipped. For years I had to try to explain all of the hands on technology that goes along with learning and performing in a home studio, and now my VO students can sit down at a workstation and go through the motions for real as they practice their technique. It's a real score for the students and allows the training to become so much more in depth. I have wanted it for a long time and finally it has arrived.
Otherwise the construction is about 75 percent done and all of the equipment wiring has yet to begin. The new booth hasn't been built yet and a series of doors will be added in the near future. However all of the nice things like direct TV and a bunch of televisions make down time go a little better.
So - in short - we're almost there and new students are starting to make their way by to check things out. We should be fully operational by March or April, but will be resuming classes in the new studio in a week or two. Pictures will be up on the boards soon...

Often times I’m asked by my students, which voices are out there that I like. It’s a hard question for me to answer because there are so many I like - and most of them for very different reasons. I don’t like telling people to go out and copy someone’s style – but when it comes to finding good role models in voice over this is probably a good place to start.

Yeah, yeah.. I know.. Flying donkeys.. Sure, that's something you see everyday...
I just wanted to get your attention so that you would sit up straight in class. Audio proficiency is what's at hand here and the use of the phrase "ready to fly" means ready to move your can in the event you have to. As usual, I would like to share some of my real world voice over experience in hopes that it may help someone survive a potentially embarrassing situation - or best of all - avoid one all together. You never know when a client will call just as you've hopped into the car to take the little lady shoe shopping, asking for something you might not be able to deliver.

One of the hardest things for new voice talent to overcome when they have little to no experience with sound isolation, acoustics or audio recording, is how to get the audio they do record up to standards that would be acceptable for professional production. Many times beginners will pout and cry about how they never get hired or booked for a gig without looking at one of the core reasons, outside of professional training, why they don’t. That reason is how the product they so desperately want to sell sounds.
If you took the greatest voice talent in the world and forced him to record his stuff in a bathroom, no one would ever hire him. Why would you? His audio would stink.

I have over 9 years broadcasting experience, but I'm new to voice-overs. After a month of chasing leads but getting no results, I started to wonder, do I suck or what?? I belong to an internet casting site for voice over and Michael's name and studio kept popping up on the blog pages of other talents in the same boat I was in.
So I tried his free evaluation. All I can say is COOL! I e-mailed Michael (and actually got him, not some intern) He sent me some copy to read as I felt it should be. He sent back his thoughts and I tried again. Michael let me know the what and wherefores of not only my delivery, but my studio set up as well. And the best thing is, it was free!! No sales pitch, no pressure, just an honest opinion. That's what I wanted. Too Cool.
Thanks Michael,
Brian Fritz
