Some of my favorite voices and voice over talent – Issue #1

Often times I’m asked by my students, which voices are out there that I like. It’s a hard question for me to answer because there are so many I like - and most of them for very different reasons. I don’t like telling people to go out and copy someone’s style – but when it comes to finding good role models in voice over this is probably a good place to start.

So it is here that I will periodically try to nail down some of those voices - and what is I most like about them. None of these should be viewed as personal endorsements as to the character of the talents or how they work– they just happen to be examples of what I like to hear of when I think of voice talent and who I would hire or recommend for projects. (other than myself of course!)

#1 – Bob Souer – www.bobsouer.com
Bob is one of my all time favorite voices. His soft, gentle read style is one the world could use a little more of.

#2 – Tony Russell – www.tonyrussell.com
Once again – another versatile voice that captures you quickly and wont let go till the end.

#3 – Dude Walker - www.dudewalker.com
Big booming voice – high power - low-end dynamics. One of the big boys in radio imaging.

#4 – Paul Turner – www.paulturnerproductions.com
Another big boomer – He’s always been one of my favorite imaging and entertainment advertising voices.

#5 – Peter Thomas Jr. – www.peterthomasjr.com
A classic narrator heard the world over. I have listened to hours and hours of his work and never tire of him.

#6 – Bill Ratner – www.billratner.com
Another classic narrator – gripping – compelling – draws you in and leaves you wanting more.

#7 – Ann Dewig – www.anndewig.com
Just the right combination of silk and smoke. A pleasure to listen to, very memorable and one of about a handful of truly unique female talents.

#8 – Rob Paulsen - www.robpaulsen.com
Character mastermind. Funny, entertaining and exceptionally audible character delivery.

#9 – Beau Weaver - www.spokenword.com
Raw, original delivery and exceptionally versatile. From edgy to soft at the drop of a hat.

#10 – Ari Ross - www.isdnvoices.com
Versatile, light commercial voice – great conversational read style and the ability to smile through his reads.
